Prof. Salman Shafi (MBBS, FCPS, Diplomat American Board of Internal Medicine/Nephrology) is Head, Department of Nephrology.
The department provides full scope of nephrology services including out-patient and in-patient service, hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, hemodialysis catheter placement, renal biopsy and ICU care. It has two dialysis units equipped with 18 state of art dialysis machines including dedicated machines for hepatitis B and C patients.
Free hemodialysis is provided to deserving patients while other patients get hemodialysis at reduced rate. In view of increasing incidence and rising cost of treatment of chronic kidney disease, special attention is paid to prevention and slowing down of progression of chronic kidney disease. In this regard screening camps are held monthly at hospital and surrounding communities to detect chronic kidney disease at an early stage in high risk patients.
The department is actively involved in teaching of undergraduate and postgraduate students. It is approved FCPS Nephrology.
